Instant Energy Surgers

If you feel too tired to even read this,
but sure wish you had energy,
try one of these 30 second energizers:

Water 101

WHY: Drinking water all day long can help you stay one step ahead of tired. Even a slight dehydration can cause your energy levels to plunge significantly, before you even realize it. And don’t wait until you feel thirsty --- your body could be low on liquids for some time before you even crave a drink. Remember, the oil light in your car doesn’t go on until the oil is getting seriously low!

HOW: To keep your enery level up all throughout the day, make a habit of drinking every hour. Water is best, but even skim milk or diluted juice are fine, too. Many people find just a few drops of lemon or cranberry added to the water makes a tastier, more appealing drink than plain water. You should drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of noncaffeinated, noncarbonated liquids daily and 12 to 14 glasses if you’re even slightly active.

Vision 101

WHY: If you, like many people today, sit staring “eyes wide open” at a computer screen for hours, it can drain your entire body. Believe it or not, more than 50 % of your nerves travel through your eyes, so if you strain your eyes, you’re likely to feel strained all over.

HOW: Train yourself to develop the following habit: each hour, take five minutes out and gaze at an object on the far side of your office. You have to change the distance at which you focus in order to give your maxed-out eye muscles and nerves a rest.

Breathing 101

WHY: Taking a deep breath can help you avert an oncoming energy crash. When you are under stress, your diaphragm muscles tighten and your breathing becomes more shallow. This deprives your cells of the oxygen needed for energy.

HOW: Take 20 quick breaths, then inhale deeply for one long breath, filling your lungs completely (your stomach should swell slightly as your diaphragm expands); then forcefully blow out all the air.
When you feel fatigued, do this exercise once and you should get a 15 minute rush of energy. You’ll feel like someone just swept the cobwebs out of your brain!

These little instant boosters should wake you up faster than you can stifle a yawn!
