A Message to Parents
This is something I wish to share with all of you who are struggling to be all that you can be as a parent. I am the mother of six children, currently ages 19 to 38. Throughout most of those years I worked full-time. I have been a single parent since 1995. Parenting has never been a picnic, but it has often been infinitely rewarding.
The text below is from the birthday card that I received this year (2003) from my children. I share it with you, as a confirmation that the good we do actually is recognized and appreciated.
There is no greater job than that which we do. We need to remember that!!
As Virginia Satir says, The family is the microcosm of the world.
Mom,
Do you have any idea
how lucky we feel
To call you our mom?
True, it may have taken
a lot of growing up
for each of us to realize.
But over the years
as weve experienced more and more
beyond the warm and nurturing home
you created for our family,
as weve see and heard
other peoples life stories,
weve come to know
how lucky we were
to be raised by a mom
as giving, understanding,
wise, and loving as you . . .
So, today,
on your birthday,
we just want to say
thank you
for helping us see
not only
how to be a caring parent,
but
how to be people
who can make
a meaningful difference
in the world.
We love you, Mom.
Happy Birthday
This is what it was all for!
This is what parenting is all about !
When I received this message from my children, I knew myself to be truly blessed.
May each of you remember that this is why we do the things we do.
May each of you be fortunate enough to have even one single affirmation such as this.
If not, then please feel free to share in mine!
because
you deserve it ! ! !
